Christopher Tjong

NCEA Tutor

Kia ora! My name is Chris and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Auckland, majoring in Economics and Finance. Throughout high school, I studied Economics alongside the sciences, which gave me a strong foundation across both analytical and problem-solving subjects. I graduated with NCEA Level 1, 2, and 3 Excellence Endorsements, including Excellence Endorsements in Level 1 General Mathematics and Level 3 Physics.

In Year 13, I was awarded the Tim Stubbs Cup for Achievement in Senior Economics, recognising me as the top senior Economics student in my graduating cohort. I have also received multiple awards for scholastic achievement across Calculus, Physics, Food Technology and English. At university, I received Certificates of Distinction in both Stage I General Mathematics and Stage I General Statistics. Alongside my studies, I am currently the Co-President of the Kiwi Asian Club, one of the three largest socio-cultural clubs at the University of Auckland.

I have experience tutoring Year 9 Mathematics in my final year of high school, which helped me develop the ability to explain ideas clearly to students with different learning styles and confidence levels. I aim to help students better understand concepts rather than simply providing answers, so they feel more confident applying their knowledge independently in class and in exams.

I enjoy using real-world examples to help students understand why they are learning certain concepts and how their subjects connect to everyday life. I understand that school can be challenging, so I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and staying curious. My goal is to guide students in a way that builds both understanding and confidence, helping them feel capable and supported as they progress.

Outside of my studies and tutoring, I enjoy cooking, baking, weightlifting, photography, and going bouldering with friends!

Subjects I can tutor:

• Junior and NCEA Level 1-3 Economics

• NCEA Level 2-3 Physics

• Junior and NCEA Level 1 Mathematics
